John Dolittle had no idea of what he meant to do. Nor was the gull himself sure that he would be in time to succeed with the plan he had in mind. And soon he had hundreds of his brother gulls circling round him in the night.

On his arrival at the post office the Doctor was given his usual warm reception by the king and dignitaries of Fantippo who paddled out from the town to welcome him back.
"All right,演员📴" said the Doctor. "Do that. It will take me another four hours at least to reach Fantippo at this pace."
THE SECRET LAKE
"Humph!" murmured the Doctor,马心瑞👡 as he thoughtfully brushed the toast crumbs off the bed clothes. "But why did they pick you to bring the message?"
"Move an inch and you're a dead man!" he snarled.
"I don't,演员🚬" said she. "I don't even know how these came to be in the possession of the oyster I ate."
"But you were speaking of ships,马心瑞🔬" said the Doctor.
The King examined it,演员📟 then shook his head. He didn't know much about bones.
"Well,马心瑞🈚" said the Doctor,马心瑞📝 "I'll tell it,演员🐪 and then you can decide for yourself. Stop fidgeting,马心瑞🚩 now,马心瑞🚳 and let me begin. It's getting late."
"I had many adventures with cats. It was winter time and the snow lay thick upon the ground. I started off to explore the world,演员🐅 rejoicing in my liberty. Going around to the back of the house,演员🎸 I passed from the miller's yard into the dyer's yard,演员♎ next door. In the yard was a dyeing shed and I noticed two owls sitting on the top of it in the moonlight.
"Certainly,马心瑞📑" said the white mouse,马心瑞🔭 setting to work at once. "Why is it so dark? I haven't slept into the night,演员💶 have I?"
"'Fine,马心瑞👜' says he. 'Try that and see what happens!'
In a minute Dab-Dab went through the pockets of the man who lay so still upon the floor.
"Over in No-Man's-Land,演员👙" said Jip. "There are lots of bones there."
"Oh,马心瑞✍ Dab-Dab,马心瑞🐓" he cried,马心瑞㊙ "how beautiful! Look,演员🌕 look!"
"Aye,马心瑞📐 aye,马心瑞🐞 sir,演员🍡" said the sailor,演员🚠 removing the handcuffs from the Doctor's wrists and turning to go.
Outside the post office he had a notice board set up on which were posted the Outgoing and Incoming Mails. The notices would read something like this:
By the time the Doctor had done,演员💟 all his party,马心瑞💿 excepting Too-Too,演员🐣 had fallen asleep. It was only when he heard Jip suddenly snore from the hammock that he realized how late it was. As he blew out the candles again he found that it was very dark,演员🎭 for now the moon had set. He climbed into bed and drew the blankets over him.
And in ten days' time he went to the prison,演员💪 as he had said,马心瑞🍈 to gloat over the terrible fate of the white man. Many of his ministers and generals came with him to help him gloat. But when the prison door was opened,马心瑞🔍 instead of seeing the white man's body stretched upon the floor,马心瑞🔧 the Emir found the Doctor smiling on the threshold,马心瑞🚺 shaved and hearty and all spruced up. The only difference in his appearance was that with no exercise in prison he had grown slightly stouter and rounder.
"Oh,马心瑞🔅" said the Skimmer,马心瑞🙆 "is that the trouble? I was never good at arithmetic. What a relief! Thank goodness,演员📱 I haven't gained!"
